Setting Sun Lyrics

“Setting Sun” captures a poignant and melancholic reflection on a destructive yet alluring relationship. Noel Gallagher’s vocals paint a picture of someone – “the devil in me” – who initially presented as youthful and exciting, drawing the narrator into a captivating, albeit ultimately doomed, affair. Despite the initial intensity and vivid visions, these promises have inevitably faded, revealing the true nature of this person: old within, constantly demanding attention with a vibrant, but ultimately fleeting, display like a “setting sun.” The repeated refrain – "It’s just too bad" – underscores a sense of resignation and acceptance of the inevitable heartbreak. The Chemical Brothers' production amplifies this feeling of dramatic decline and beauty, suggesting that while the experience was intense, its brilliance is destined to disappear, leaving only regret and the lingering image of something spectacular gone too soon.
