Say You, Say Me Lyrics

“Say You, Say Me” is a heartfelt plea for connection and self-acceptance amidst life’s uncertainties. The song explores the universal longing for genuine friendship and understanding, symbolized by the dream of people playing games in the dark – a masquerade representing hidden doubts. Lionel Richie’s message resonates with a desire to break down walls and find someone who truly sees you, offering guidance when lost. He urges listeners not to be swayed by superficial distractions ("the whole world has got you dancing") but to embrace their inner worth, recognizing themselves as “shining stars.” The repeated chorus, "Say you, say me," emphasizes the importance of expressing love and trust openly and naturally, suggesting that true connection arises from vulnerability and believing in oneself. Ultimately, it’s an optimistic call to find solace and strength through genuine human relationships.
