Run Runaway Lyrics

“Run Runaway” is a cautionary tale about the dangers of chasing superficial desires and adapting to please others. Slade’s message centers around the idea that true happiness isn't found in wealth or popularity, represented by the chameleon constantly changing its colors “all things to everyone.” The repeated urging to "run away" suggests an escape from this manipulative environment, warning against compromising one’s identity for fleeting gains. The lyrics highlight a sense of frustration and urgency – “If you’re in the swing,” “If you gotta crush,” “Oh now can't you wait” – conveying impatience with those who prioritize external validation over genuine connection and suggesting love isn’t simply ‘on a plate’. Ultimately, the song promotes self-preservation and encourages listeners to resist conforming to societal pressures, advocating for an authentic existence free from the chameleon’s deceptive allure.
