Jeopardy Lyrics

“Jeopardy” captures the agonizing feeling of a relationship spiraling towards destruction, fueled by betrayal and abandonment. The lyrics portray a desperate plea for support that has been repeatedly ignored, highlighting the speaker’s frustration and growing sense of isolation. “You could not be found,” emphasizes the crucial absence when needed most, while the repeated warning – “It's the lightning not the thunder” – suggests a sudden, devastating blow rather than a gradual decline. The song builds to a heartbreaking climax with the declaration that their love is “in jeopardy,” underscored by the urgent repetition of "Don’t let go while I’m hanging on.” Ultimately, Greg Kihn’s message is one of raw vulnerability and sorrow, acknowledging the painful reality when trust is broken and hope diminishes, leaving the singer trapped in a desperate struggle for survival within a failing connection.
