Be Quick or Be Dead Lyrics

“Be Quick or Be Dead” is a scathing indictment of corrupt power structures and the manipulation of the masses. Iron Maiden’s urgent delivery underscores the feeling of desperate urgency, warning listeners against complacency in the face of deceitful forces. The lyrics depict a world dominated by greed – “sinners dripping with gilt,” investing lives in destructive schemes – represented by the insidious "serpent" whispering false promises and urging blind obedience through manipulation ("vote for what you want to hear"). The repeated command, “Be quick or be dead!” highlights the perilous situation where individuals are being driven towards self-destruction by prioritizing comfort over truth. Ultimately, the song is a stark warning about critical thinking, resisting influence, and recognizing those who exploit vulnerabilities for personal gain, urging listeners to actively resist being swallowed by this corrupting system.
